According to Chinese tradition, turning the character FU upside down conveys the meaning that good luck will be brought to you for the whole year. At the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, there will be products of Chinese characteristics for sale, together with Chinese snack, traditional Chinese folk arts demonstration and performances.

“福”字购物节

Chinese Red Envelope Red envelopes, also called red packets, lucky money, or HONG BAO (红包) in Chinese, are a popular monetary gift given on some important occasions such as a wedding, graduation, the birth of a baby and senior person’s birthday or festivals in China and some other Asian countries, especially widely seen during the Chinese New Year (Spring Festival).

History of Red Envelope  In China, during the Qin Dynasty around 2200 years ago, the elderly would thread coins with a red string. The money was called yāsuì qián (压岁钱) meaning “Suppressing ghosts money”, and was believed to protect the elderly from sickness and death. The yāsuì qián was replaced by red envelops when printing presses became more common and is now found written using the homophone for suì (岁) that means “old age” instead of “evil spirits”.

Why We Give Red Envelopes The colour red in China is the symbol of energy, happiness and good luck. Sending red envelopes is a way to send good wishes and luck. The significance of red envelopes is the red paper, not the money inside. Wrapping money in red envelopes is expected to bestow more happiness and blessings on the receivers.

It’s time for joining the Spring Festive and sending out the lucky blessing to the kids from the parents and grandparents with our red envelope that will express your good wishes, expectations and love.
